Chapter 245 The Real Beginning

Chapter 245 The Real Beginning

Nysa's calm voice cut through the tension. "Thy survival dependeth on wisdom, not brute strength. Use thy minds, mortals."

"Thanks for the advice, Lady Nysa," Pyris said dryly. He didn't want to use so much of his energy on these less powerful creatures when he didn't know what awaited him near the Blood Chalice location.

It was better to finish these off quickly, the next moment, Pyris released the hold on the wraiths.

The moment did, the frozen wraiths lugged at him, chaos erupted anew.

The air pulsed with an ominous hum as the wraiths surged forward, their claws glowing with malevolent energy. The uneven terrain made every step a gamble, and the jagged spikes bursting unpredictably from the ground ensured that no one could stand still for long.

"Here we go again!" Pyris let out, vaulting over a rising spike and landing in front of Lyra just as a wraith lunged at her. His hand shot out, gripping the creature by its shifting neck and slamming it into the ground with a burst of sand and earth energy.

"Can you stop babysitting me?" Lyra snapped, her voice strained as she parried another wraith's attack with her glowing blades. Inwardly, she was glad he was there.

"Sure, when you stop looking like a damsel in distress!" Pyris quipped, his lips curling into a smirk. Experience more content on My Virtual Library Empire

"Focus, you two!" Seren roared, her war hammer trailing crimson energy as she swung it in a wide arc, shattering a wraith that had gotten too close. "This isn't a sparring match!"

The wraiths were faster, more coordinated now, their soul-draining claws grazing through the air like blades. Lyra leapt back from one strike only to be cornered by another. She swung her light-imbued blade desperately, but her opponent phased out of reach, reappearing behind her.

"Got you now—ugh!" Lyra grunted as the wraith's claws raked across her arm.

Blood splattered onto the ground as she stumbled, her space element flickering around her in defense.

"Lyra!" Pyris called , appearing beside her in an instant. He shoved the wraith away with a burst of darkness energy before trapping it in a swirling vortex of time. "Don't let your guard down!"

"It's hard not to when these things are everywhere!" Lyra retorted, her voice shaking as she clutched her bleeding arm.

Nearby, Seren was faring no better. Three wraiths surrounded her, their glowing eyes fixed on her every move.

She swung her hammer ferociously, its crimson glow leaving streaks in the air as it smashed into one wraith's chest. The creature flickered but didn't fade, and its companions lunged at her simultaneously.

"Damn it!" Seren cursed as their claws tore through her defenses, leaving deep gashes on her sides. She staggered back, blood dripping onto the jagged ground.

Alera watched her companions struggle, her violet eyes narrowing as a wraith approached her.

She extended her hand, her Living Shadows surging forward to envelop the creature and pull it into the void. Another wraith followed, and another, but she didn't falter.

"Enough of this," she muttered, her voice calm but determined.

The shadows wrapped around her body, swirling like a living armor.

Her movements grew sharper, faster, her strikes more precise. Alera's form became a blur of black and violet as she leapt into the fray, her Living Shadows trailing behind her like a second skin.

"You look... terrifying," Pyris commented as she darted past him, her shadows slicing through a wraith that had been closing in on his back.

"And you look like you're enjoying saving useless damsels," Alera quipped, smirking as she flipped over a spike and drove her fist, clad in shadow, into a wraith's chest.

"Touché," Pyris said, grinning as he turned to help Seren.

The group fought as one, each member covering the others' weaknesses. Pyris darted between them, using his elemental mastery to manipulate the battlefield. He slowed wraiths with his time element, then trapped them in sand and earth, allowing Alera or Seren to finish them off.

Seren, despite her injuries, fought with unrelenting ferocity. Her blood and darkness elements swirled together, forming crimson tendrils that lashed out at the wraiths around her.

"Get off me, you soul-sucking bastards!" she roared, slamming her hammer into the ground and releasing a wave of energy that sent three wraiths reeling.

Lyra, her injured arm wrapped in a hastily conjured light barrier, danced between spikes and wraiths. Her space element flickered around her, allowing her to teleport short distances and deliver precise strikes to the wraiths' cores.

"Come on, you creepy shadows!" she taunted, a grim smile on her face as her blade severed another wraith's flickering arm. "Is that all you've got?" It felt as if she wasn't cornered moments ago.

The wraiths responded by phasing through the ground, emerging unpredictably to swipe at their legs. Pyris caught one with a barrier of sand, crushing it before it could reach Seren.

"Careful what you wish for!" he smiled at Lyra.

The air pulsed violently as the last wave of wraiths surged toward them.

Pyris raised his hands, summoning a swirling vortex of darkness and time that engulfed the remaining creatures.

"Now!" he shouted, and Alera and Seren moved in unison, their respective elements slashing through the wraiths as they were trapped.

When the final wraith dissipated into the air, an oppressive silence settled over the chamber. The group stood panting, their bodies battered but alive.

"Is it over?" Lyra asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"For now," Pyris replied, his gaze fixed on the path ahead.

The uneven ground smoothed out, leading to a massive stone archway glowing with faint runes. Beyond it, the air shimmered with an otherworldly energy, and the faint sound of whispers echoed from within.

"What fresh hell awaits us now?" Seren muttered, gripping her hammer tightly.

"This," Nysa said, stepping forward with an almost amused smile, "is where the labyrinth truly begins."

The group exchanged uneasy glances as they followed her through the archway, their battered forms silhouetted against the glowing runes.
