Chapter 764: Chapter 764: Ugly People Often Cause Trouble
Alan Willock and Lester Bank, the teacher-student duo, were quite famous in the oil painting world. However, most of the credit went to Alan. Lester’s current status was all thanks to Alan’s influence.
Someone couldn’t help but sigh, “Mr. Bank, your disciple is so young and has already achieved so much. I was already forty before I qualified to participate in an oil painting exhibition, and she’s qualified in her early twenties. Truly impressive!”
Lester laughed, “Not only is Tracy talented, but she’s modest and diligent in her studies. But let’s not praise her too much, lest she becomes arrogant.”
“Mr. Bank, I heard that you have taken on two disciples. Where is the other one?” Everyone was envious upon hearing that Lester had taken on two highly-talented disciples.
Unexpectedly, Lester’s face changed, “You mean, Xaviera Evans?”
Everyone replied, “We don’t know her name, but we’ve heard that she painted a rose that was so lifelike it amazed everyone. Did she also come to participate in the exhibition today?”
Lester spoke unhappily, “She’s not qualified to participate in the exhibition!”
Tracy Swift by his side quickly explained, “Actually, Miss Evans didn’t go through an apprenticeship. She was too arrogant and looked down on others. That’s why our teacher ultimately didn’t accept her.”
Everyone understood Tracy’s meaning. So, Xaviera had refused to become Lester’s disciple. How arrogant could this twenty-year-old girl be?
“Miss Evans does have some talent, but she’s also very arrogant.” Tracy’s words led everyone to believe Xaviera was wild and ungrateful.
People flattered, “Even if she’s talented, she shouldn’t be disrespectful to her elders. It’s right not to accept a disciple with such character. After all, Mr. Bank already has such an outstanding disciple as Miss Swift!”
They continued, “That’s right! Talent is only one aspect, and temperament is another. If a disciple is too proud, it’s better not to accept them. This way you won’t ruin your reputation. Now Miss Swift is able to participate in the exhibition with her work, while that Xaviera Evans is absent. That says it all.”
Lester’s face darkened, “Xaviera is indeed talented, but she’s not comparable to Tracy. It’s expected that she wouldn’t participate in the competition.”
As everyone continued walking, Tracy suddenly stopped and exclaimed in surprise, “Xaviera?”
At this time, in the spacious corridor, Xaviera and Xenia Jaak walked hand in hand, encountering everyone face-to-face. Lester’s face instantly changed, “How did you get here?”
Xenia’s temper flared up again. Was this exhibition organized by you? Why do you care if someone comes or not!
Before Xenia could speak, Tracy gently persuaded, “Xaviera, this is the exclusive resting area for exhibition painters. How can you just come in? Are you looking for Mr. Bank?”
Tracy paused for a moment, then continued, “Do you regret turning down our teacher? I heard that he’s participating in the exhibition, so you followed him here?”
Upon hearing this, Lester immediately straightened his back, looking very smug.
Xaviera glanced at Tracy, thinking, “Is she insane?”
She walked forward with Xenia, but Tracy wasn’t going to let her go so easily. She said with a helpless face, “Xaviera, now that you’re here, won’t you at least greet your teacher? If you want to ask for apprenticeship again, you have to show your sincerity. You can’t be so arrogant just because you’re a bit talented.”
Lester held his head high, his eyes full of disdain. He had guessed that Xaviera would regret her decision sooner or later, but he didn’t expect it so soon.
The atmosphere gradually became awkward. Xaviera remained silent, while Tracy struggled to conceal the smugness on her face. Pretending to feel pity, she said, “Xaviera, we could have been sisters under the same master, but you…”
“Who told you I came here to ask for apprenticeship?” Xaviera’s voice was ice cold, “Miss Swift, have you ever heard of a saying that perfectly describes you?”
Tracy’s mouth twitched slightly, sensing something wrong, “What saying?”
Xaviera curled her lips, “Ugly people should be seen and not heard! If you’re ugly, you should speak less and do more, instead of always asking for an ass-kicking! Go home and look in the mirror more often, your face is about to collapse!”
With that, she quickly left with Xenia.
Tracy stood there, her face contorted with rage. She was close to exploding with anger but had to maintain her image in front of the many artists.
Unable to swallow his anger, however, Lester roared, “Xaviera! What right do you, as an observer, have to come backstage? If you sneaked in here, who else could you be looking for but me?”
