Chapter 320: Strategy Meeting (vs. the Heroes of the Central Area)<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">“Why are all these pesky small fries using the same equipment as us!?”
“Fuck! If we had known this, we’d have brought porters with us!”
“If we manage to bring back this much Mithril equipment…it’ll be enough money to let us live the rest of our lives without having to work ever again…”
The invaders were forced into hard fights by the groups of dhampirs, dark elves, and living mails who were all fully equipped with Mithril gear.
If you had small fry at the front-line wear high-ranking equipment, the humans would take those equipment pieces back with them after defeating the small fry. This led to a strengthening of the humans over all and basically meant you were slowly digging your own grave.
However, the invaders shown on my smartphone, the heroes of Central Area, wore the same type of equipment and since I didn’t have any intention to let them return alive, I freely deployed the equipment without any limits this time.
“We’re heroes! We’re the hope of mankind! Rid yourself of such vulgar feelings!”
“Tsk…the folks from Shizuoka are so damn annoying about each and every little thing…”
“Now, now, don’t say that…they??Satol and the others had been thoroughly trashed by the ?Sadist King?.”
“But, you know…”
“You slackers! Stop running your mouths about pointless nonsense and start moving your hands! Take down as many monsters as possible!”
Who’s that ?Sadist King?? They’re not part of the Thirteen Evil Stars, are they? Guess I’ll look it up later.
“But…if we can bring back all this gear…it’ll result in a huge upgrade of combat power for us humans.”
“Give it a rest! Natsumi! Are you also getting poisoned by them!? As long as we defeat Genesis…Demon King Shion, everything will be resolved! Right!?”
“Poisoned, you say…that’s a nasty way to put it…for your information, we’re defeating the most monsters over here, okay?”
“Right. Satol…you’re free to play the tragic heroine as much as you want, but…don’t lash out at us.”
“Ugh! Y-You bastards…!”
Crybaby-kun…also known as Satol…seems to hail from Shizuoka. He’s putting on airs as a leader-like figure, but…the guys, who have been cracking jokes, are definitely above him in ability.
Now then, it’s about time to do my standard harassment and release a big number of giant bats to launch sound wave attacks, I’d say.
Still, most of the traps are useless, huh? Since it’s necessary to purge all invaders from a domain to plan new traps, the current types of traps have all been previously set up by Yataro. If you deploy this many subordinates, the subordinates will end up triggering the planted traps.
Having said that, traps that are planted in deserted areas will be quickly defused by human scouts. According to Yataro, knowing how to skilfully employ traps seems to be rewarding, but as I usually leave all the defense work to Yataro, I guess it’s asking too much to become capable at it within a short period of time.
I freely deployed expensive subordinates in full gear while observing the invaders.
?
Three hours later.
I learned several things from continuing to observe the enemy.
First, the Central Area heroes appear to have been chosen from the four prefectures Aichi, Shizuoka, Gifu, and Fukui. Or to be precise, three people from Aichi, two people from Shizuoka, three people from Gifu, and four people from Fukui.
The two Shizuoka invaders hate Demon Kings from the bottom of their hearts. In contrast to that, the three Gifu invaders are easygoing, but they possess the highest combat abilities in the party. The three Gifu invaders do their best at maintaining harmony in the party while the four Fukui invaders stick together most of the time.
“Looking at it overall, their teamwork isn’t good by any standard.”
“It might be the outcome of your strategy, Shion-sama,” Mao answered to my monologue.
“You think so?”
“Earlier some of them mentioned your offer, causing friction within the party.”
When a carefree Gifu hero joked, ?Which reminds me, I wonder what’s going to happen if we go along with Genesis’s offer? Won’t we be able to get incredible gear??, the two Shizuoka heroes flew into rage.
“If the poison I injected works…that’s lucky, but this is clearly a blunder on the humans’ side.”
“You’re humbling your own achievements too much, Shion-sama.”
“Probably all of these guys are heroes of all prefectures…or rather, aces. And they might have been leaders beforehand. Because we launched an attack this time, the humans had to move as well, whether they liked it or not, but…their preparations weren’t yet in perfect order, I suspect.”
Limited to this time, the humans are on the offense, but…a Demon King started it.
Ace-class fighters, who are extremely charismatic, are scary as a group, but a simple gathering of aces is easy to take apart. People like Takaharu and Sarah…are mighty fighters, but if not for the compelling force of a Demon King’s order…they’d very likely be two-edged swords.
If you consider it like that…Saburou might actually have quite a lot of charisma, seeing how he’s holding this group of extremely peculiar characters together without the power of ordering them around as Demon King…? Or rather than charisma, they’re hobby friends? Or maybe it’s a matter of affinity?
Oops, I digressed.
I suppose I’ll finalize the strategy.
“Izayoi.”
“Yes, Shion-sama!”
“At the same time as we launch our surprise attack, you’ll kill this guy here while I’ll kill this guy.”
I designated Satol as my own target while setting the other Shizuoka hero as Izayoi’s target.
First we’re going to slay the two invaders hating us the most, trying to break the enemy’s morale.
“Next, Saburou. Once you see with your own eyes that Izayoi’s and my surprise attack succeeded, kill this guy.”
I pointed at one hero of Aichi, who seemed to balance the party out.
“Mao.”
“Y-Yes.”
“Can you split Team J’s combat forces into two groups?”
“Yes.”
“??Wh-!? I am…the commander-in-chief of Team J…”
“One group will take down the two remaining Aichi heroes while the other group, led by Mao, will kill the Fukui heroes.”
“I-I-I-I u-u-understand.”
“Also, Saburou.”
“Y-Yesh!”
Hmm, it’s right before we’re going to carry out an important operation. I guess I should follow up on him…
“You’re the commander-in-chief of Team J beyond any doubt.”
“??! Okay!”
“Because we quickly need to kill the formidable Aichi heroes this time, I entrusted that task to you, Saburou…would it possibly be better for me to leave it to someone else of Team J?”
“No, I haven’t said anything like that!”
“Therefore I left the command to Mao. Do you have anything to say about my strategy?”
“I think the First Calamity would be the ideal replacement for me as commander!”
First Calamity…he means that funny slime, right?
“Seriously?”
“While it may sound presumptuous, Tenth Calamity isn’t suited for command, despite her talents. Please take my suggestion into consideration!”
Really?
??Mao, is what Saburou said just now true? Answer me honestly!
I ordered her to hear about her true feelings.
“Y-Yes! I-I…have social phobia…making me unsuited to stand in front of others…in contrast to that, First Calamity boasts the strongest mental stability within Team J and he’s also accustomed to leading. Therefore, the Commander-in-Chief’s advice is c-c-correct.”
I’m completely ignorant of the inner workings in Team J, so I guess I’ll go with Saburou’s suggestion here.
“Got it. In that case, work as an assistant of the slime over there and tell him the order of priority in regards to the targets!”
The Fukui heroes excel at teamwork. The key point for a perfect victory is to quickly break their teamwork apart. I’ll have all the defending subordinates attack the Gifu heroes as it’ll be enough, if they buy us some time.
With this the strategy is set.
The invaders are being constantly attacked, becoming exhausted.
“Well then, let us swiftly clean up those prized heroes of the humans.”
“””Yes!”””
We started to move in order to launch our surprise attack.
