Chapter 101 : Party in the slums Part 4

Chapter 101 : Party in the slums Part 4

"I believe there's a 'proto civilization', one that precedes history as we know it. I don't know much about them besides their language, but I do know one thing. They had an advanced technology, way more advanced than ours. The clay figurine I just showed you is proof of this, as I believe it wasn't made by the Maya but by this mysterious civilization.

If all dungeons are related to the forgotten civilization, it would be safe to assume we could find incredible artifacts like this or at least some oricalchum scraps inside them."

"I'm in." Medusa declared. "As long as you can promise me I'll get a share of the orichalcum, I'm in."

"I didn't finish explaining." Uriel tried to continue his explanation, but this time it was Medusa's turn to interrupt him.

"Doesn't matter, I'm in." She sternly asserted.

Everyone then stared at Sam, he could feel the peer pressure but wouldn't budge that easily as he was too afraid to face cryptids again.

"I'm not, it was great knowing you all, but I'll be going now." Said Sam, but before he could stand up Nika went behind him and whispered a few words into his ear. No one but Sam could listen to what she said, but the effects were immediate. "As a man, I can't let you guys take those risks alone.

You can count me in too." His determined look, his sharp gaze, his handsome face and his serious tone did nothing to prevent everyone to think he was just a pervert.

"This calls for a celebration!" Nika grabbed a six pack of imported beer and started handing them out.

Sam was the first to grab one, but Uriel was shocked when he noticed that even Luna had one in her hand.

"Come on, don't be a buzzkill!" Nika nudged on Uriel.

"Fine, if it's just this time..." He sighed as he grabbed the can of beer.

"Cheers!" Everyone took a sip of their beer, everyone but Nika who gulped down the beer like it was just water.

"So, where do we start?" Asked medusa.

"Well... I was thinking on using this place as our headquarters, keep that in mind and don't share this location with anyone."

"It looks great, it really does." Sam said in a sigh reclining on his chair.

"And I need your help to pay for it... it's roughly 250k credits so..."

"This place is shit!" Said Sam. "Why would you pay so much for a dumpster like this!?"

"Don't you know how expensive it is to buy a place? Even if it's in the slums" Luna butted in.

"I know it looks crappy, but it has potential, all it needs is a few renovations and we'll be set."

"I don't get it." Medusa said with a curious look on her face. "Why didn't you just buy it?" Everyone glared at her in response. a sum like that was huge even for Sam who also came from a wealthy family. "I could sell my apartment in the city and pay for it if you want." She added, feeling bad for rubbing off her wealth in front of everyone.

"That won't be necessary. All we need to do is form a party, if we play or cards right one incursion is all it will take for us to gather enough credits." Uriel replied.

"How long do we have?" Asked the level headed Luna.

"Three days counting tomorrow. By the morning of the fourth I'll lose my deposit."

"It's impossible!" Sam complained. "Even with Miss Dragonfang we barely made any money!"

Creating a party had a few downsides, like sharing the loot in equal parts, meaning they would have to kill at least four cryptids to get the same amount of credits they would by killing one if they were alone. But it was also less risky and the different traits each member possessed should make the hunt faster and more efficient.

"I know, it will be difficult but, I have an Idea." Uriel said as he leaned forward. "We could take on a bounty."

"A bounty? Like with the skinwalker?"

"Yes. But that time we didn't know anything about it and simply stumbled upon that thing by chance. I bet the Cryptid hunting agency will gladly provide us some information on the bounties placed on cryptids if we ask nicely."

After discussing the matter for a while the general consensus was that hunting enough cryptids to get the amount of credits they needed would take them more than a single incursion. Even if they were optimistic about their possibilities, they knew how difficult it was to find them when they didn't want to be found and how dangerous it was to act reckless.

Hunting for bounties was indeed safer and it also came with the side benefit of increasing their reputation with the Cryptid hunting agency which could make things easier for them in the future. Every hunter knew how important was for them to maintain a good relationship with the agency as they were responsible for managing them.

Although none of them aspired to be a hunter in the long term and hunting was only a means to a end, there was nothing wrong in having a good reputation.

By the time they finished their meeting it was late already, needless to say some of them were also drunk because Nika kept busy filling the table with drinks and snacks while they were talking. For this reason Uriel insisted they stayed the night.

In spite of the sense of security everyone had because of their ascended rank, Uriel was the only one in the group who truly knew how bad things were in the slums and they ended up agreeing.

Staying in the abandoned factory also allowed them to save time, as they could buy supplies and go to the west gate as soon as they got up. The fact that the abandoned factory was located near the already familiar west gate was a relief since they were acquainted with the gate personnel and Cryptid hunting agents too branch.
