Chapter 147 Second year hunting party

Chapter 147 Second year hunting party

"Welcome, how may I assist you today?" A cheerful blond woman greeted him.

"I need a ticket for any northwest POI." Uriel said as he handed his hunter card to the woman.

The card was truly useful for a hunter as it not only acted as a debit card, but also as an ID. Although it only showed a hunter's nickname and rank and it was only at the Cryptid hunting agency, which was a government institution, was possible to access to a hunter's files.

"I'm sorry, I can't let you go to the northwest area. It's a really difficult place and we can't let an ascended with your limited experience go alone." The woman replied with a wry smile. "Besides, there are many hunting zones to the northwest, but there isn't any POI."

In the past, Uriel would have simply let it go and find another way, but now he wasn't willing to give up on his endeavor. The reason why he was so compelled to fulfill his promise wasn't because he wanted to keep his word, but because he still remembered the bone chilling presence of the Water warlock and he knew that going back on his words or investigating half assedly could land him in trouble.

Even if Water warlock wasn't around anymore, just the thought of breaking his promise made him shiver.

"I have a better Idea, why don't you join us?" Said a familiar voice from behind.

"Miss Dragonfang!? You're still alive?" Uriel exclaimed after being startled by the former lieutenant.

Experience tales at empire

"Don't sound so surprised, I'm pretty strong." She said placing an arm on her biceps.

"Where is Miss Phlox?"

"She..." Lizzy Dragonfang gazed down and covered her eyes.

"I'm sorry... I didn't know." Uriel let out awkwardly. He hadn't known Phlox for long, but she left a good impression on him. Also, there was a sense of comradery with her as, at the time, they were both evolved.

"Oh! It's nothing like that. She's in the garage waiting, the reason I'm sad is because she left me to pay for the tickets." Miss Dragonfang continued and playfully poked her tongue out.

"You never learn..." Uriel glared at her.

"So, are you in or not?"

"No, thanks... I still have a lot to live for." The reason why Uriel declined the offer was for self preservation, but not because he doubted Miss Dragonfang's prowess, but because he couldn't afford to let people that knew him witness his new found power.

"Look who finally grew some pubic hair!" Phlox laughed. "I came here to scold this useless team leader because she was taking too long, but now I see why."

"It's good to see you Miss Phlox." Uriel greeted her with respect.

"Drop the Miss, we're both evolved after all."

"Actually, I'm an ascended now." Uriel shrugged.

"Wow! That's great news!" Phlox patted him on the back. "Now I remember, I heard something about you working for the Mapple corp. I bet you're loaded now. Hey, if you ask me out on a date to a nice place I wouldn't say no."

"Loaded? I wouldn't say so. I owe more money than I have." He replied.

"Hey you! Did you really work for the Mapple corp.?" A girl about Uriel's age asked.

"I didn't work for them, I worked with them." Uriel felt the need to distance himself from the Mapple corp. as much as possible, especially when he was surrounded by people who resented them. He didn't want to become the new target of everyone's hatred once more.

"That means you must be a really capable person. Would you like to join us? We're short one member, but we're already gathered and we could use an ascended." She said with a smile.

She was well dressed but her clothes were obviously from retail, meaning she took care on her appearance but wasn't wealthy. Or that's what Uriel would have thought if not for her wearing intermediate armor on top of her clothes.

Uriel wasn't sure if he should hop into the first offer he received but Miss Dragonfang soon cleared all of his doubts.

"Ah! Don't try to steal my companions Amy! Don't listen to her Sage, she's only a second year college student."

"I'm not stealing anyone and you should start taking your job more seriously." Amy replied with a soft tone of voice, but her words were like sharp daggers to the former lieutenant.

Miss Dragonfang had kept busy hunting and she was on a winning streak, but she couldn't let her past failures behind so easily. Her joking attitude and childish behavior was nothing but a facade to keep her true feelings at bay.

"I would like to join you, but are you really ok with me? You don't know me." Uriel asked as he needed to make sure their partnership would work.

"Oh, I'm sure. The fact that you worked for... excuse me, with the Mapple corp. already says you're capable enough, but if I also have the chance to upset Miss Dragonfang I'm more than happy to let you join us." Amy explained with a genuine smile that transmitted a sense of trust to Uriel. "There's only a couple conditions. First, you'll need to buy an intermediate armor.

This is not negotiable as your life and that of the whole team may depend on it. And you'll also need to pay for your own ticket. If you're ok with these terms then you can join us."

Uriel pondered for a while, he still had some credits left and could potentially buy the armor but he wasn't sure if it would be useful at all. Now that he was certain he could regenerate even his limbs, buying an armor seemed pointless. But then he realized that, just the fact that he didn't need any protection didn't necessarily mean an armor would be useless.

In the case he got injured, an armor would be able to disguise his regenerative ability as a regular ascended trait.

"I'll join you, thanks for the opportunity."

"If it works out, we might keep working together in the future." Amy smiled and shook his hand.
