Chapter 89 : Rebirth
Chapter 89 : Rebirth
*Beep beep beep*
'This stupid alarm again' Uriel struggled to wake up like usual and, just like always, he poked his hand out of his blanket searching for his vintage alarm clock. He tapped on the night stand a couple times, but there wasn't any clock, in fact, it was empty.
Uriel opened his eyes to a white room, sunlight beaming through the window of the spacious room accompanied by the smell of sanitizer. The beeping sound that woke him up was coming out from a strange device that seemed to be monitoring his heart rate.
'Guess I still have a heart...' he thought as he patted his chest with relief. After stabbing himself in the heart he was shocked to realize he had been transported to the mystical realm, even though he knew he had somehow survived he still couldn't forget the feeling of his own heart being pierced by a metal object.
"It's my turn to bathe him!"
"No, it was your turn yesterday, It's my turn now!"
Two women were scuffling and giggling just outside the room and, despite the door being shut, he could hear them clearly. The door opened slowly and a woman entered the room carrying hygiene products and a small bucket of water but when she realized the man she was supposed to give a spongebath to was fully awake, she dropped everything on the ground prompting the other nurse to rush inside.
"What's wrong?" She scolded the other one.
"He's awake!" The nurse who entered first gasped at the man sitting on the bed. His naked torso poking out of the sheets. Scared by their loud exclamations, Uriel thought he was still badly wounded, maimed or horribly scarred and he quickly patted himself checking for injuries.
"Is everything ok?" Uriel muttered rubbing his chin to the unfamiliar feeling of a skin as soft as that of a baby.
"I-I just came to give you a bath, but now that you're awake..." The young nurse said blushingly.
"Nonsense! we still need to make sure you're clean to prevent infections." The other nurse said quick wittedly as she rolled her sleeves, only for her hopes to be crushed by the presence of the doctor who came alerted by the sounds.
"Quit playing around and call the emergency contact." The doctor reprimanded.
"Excuse me, I don't know where I am or how I got here, also... I don't have an emergency contact." Uriel never trusted his uncle enough to appoint him as an emergency contact and he couldn't think of who they could possibly be referring to.
"Uh? Are you not friends with Mister walter?" The doctor vaguely explained the circumstances that led him to be taken to the hospital. In summary, It was thanks to Stella, the female engineer whose name Uriel didn't yet know.
After being attacked by Flanagan, Stella woke up in the middle of the night and remained trapped on Chichén Itzá until the protective barrier was restored, only when the place was safe again did she attempt to evacuate the place. She had found Uriel by chance and she carried him out of the site by herself and stood by his side until they were evacuated.
"I'd like to get up now" Uriel said.
"We can't do that, Sir. We don't know what happened to you, even if you're awake now, we'd like you to stay for a day or two until we make sure you're in perfect health." The doctor insisted and Uriel ended up agreeing to staying until Walter showed up.
He did feel tired after all and it wasn't like staying in a comfy bed could mean any harm to him. Also, he was still confounded about everything that had transpired and needed a bit of time for himself to make sense of things. The last he remembered was the shimmering light coming off from his dagger, then he stabbed himself on the heart and then nothing. It was just like blinking his eyes.
The first thing he did once the doctors left the room was to open up his status.
Rank: [Ascended]

"What? There's no explanation about the titles anymore, I even got a new one, uh? Undying?"
[System notification] Undying: Acquired by not dying.
"Wow! so helpful!" He wasn't being sarcastic, it wasn't the obvious description of the title what Uriel found helpful but the fact that he only had to think about it and the information was immediately displayed for him.
"So, I'm now an ascended, my body looks a lot different than before and... A new artifact!" Uriel was so excited he almost jumped from the bed. He didn't care about being a little loud because he thought he was alone in the room, but that wasn't the case.
"What the hell are you mumbling about?" An all too familiar voice pulled him outside his trait before he even got the chance to examine his new artifact.
"Nika? What are you doing here?" His first reaction was to quickly cover his chest with the sheets in embarrassment.
"You're not going to thank me for taking your sorry ass out of the pyramid? If it wasn't for me that girl would have never found you." A demacrated Nika, with deep cheeks and protuberant cheekbones, said.
"What happened to you? you look like crap."
"Remember those restrictions I told you about? Well... My trait is a bit different than most. Instead of spending flux to activate it, I recover flux whenever I'm inside the shadow of my employer."
"So?"
"So, all the time you've been unconscious I've been trapped inside your shadow, but it was only after you woke up I started to regain some flux!"
"Why didn't you get out?"
"Didn't you hear me? I was fucking trapped in a weird building, it was like a..."
"A museum!? You were inside of my museum!?"
"Yeah, I kind of figured out it was yours... by the way, you should really get more reading material, that one magazine gets old real quick." Said Nika, deeply embarrassing Uriel but the possibility of someone else entering his museum made him curious.
"Can you go back there?"
"I spent who knows how much time in there, without food, without a bathroom, not even water! I'm not going back there until..." While she was speaking a soft knock on the door was heard and Nika quickly vanished into Uriel's shadow.
"Excuse me." A man wearing a tailor made business suit entered the room, a gentle smile adorning the old man's face.
"Mister Walter!?" Uriel almost shouted after being startled.
