Chapter 151 Turning into an Egg
Chapter 151 Turning into an Egg
Without waiting for another word, Nyx dove forward, her form vanishing into the serpent's gaping maw.
Horizon watched with a mixture of awe and mild exasperation. He could hear faint squelching sounds as Nyx moved deeper inside the beast, her voice echoing faintly from within. Stay updated through empire
"This is revolting . . . absolutely revolting," Nyx grumbled loudly. "You'd better appreciate this, Horizon. I don't do this kind of thing for just anyone."
"I get it," Horizon muttered under his breath, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.
He was relieved that Nyx was with him. If it had been any other player or creature—no matter how high their stats—they wouldn't have dared to enter the serpent due to its highly corrosive venom.
But Nyx was different. As a Great Dragon, her skeletal form was unlike any other. Her bones were likely among the hardest and most valuable materials in all of Eternia, resistant to even the deadliest toxins.
Minutes felt like hours as he waited, tension building with every passing second. He kept glancing around the forest, wary of any other predators that might have been drawn by the scent of blood. Just when he was beginning to grow anxious, Nyx's voice called out.
"Got it!"
Moments later, she emerged from the serpent's side, holding a glowing, crystalline orb roughly the size of her. The soul stone pulsed faintly with an inner light, casting an ethereal glow in the dim forest. Despite the grime and serpent blood coating Nyx, she held the stone up triumphantly.
"Here it is," Nyx said, waving the Soul Stone at Horizon.
Horizon examined the orb, feeling the faint hum of energy radiating from it. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before—a tangible piece of power, pulsing with latent potential.
"This . . . ," Horizon whispered, unable to hide his excitement. "This is incredible." He could feel the immense power inside the stone. He was getting excited at just the thought of the possibilities waiting to be explored with this material.
Nyx shrugged nonchalantly, though her grin betrayed her pride. "Told you. Now, don't forget—you owe me."
"Right. Right."
"And I already know what I want as payment," Nyx said, her voice carrying a hint of smugness.
"What?" Horizon asked absentmindedly, his attention fixed on the Soul Stone resting in her skeletal claws.
Nyx's tone turned serious. "This Soul Stone contains an immense amount of mana—enough to match the accumulation of a hundred years of energy for a dragon in this realm."
Horizon blinked, still not fully grasping her point. "Really?" he muttered, only mildly interested. He was more focused on what he could create with the stone rather than its raw power.
Nyx's eyes gleamed mischievously. "So, as payment, I'll take it for myself. This will give me the boost I need to evolve."
"Is that right?" Horizon responded distractedly, before doing a double take. "Wait—what? What do you mean 'take it'?"
Before he could demand further clarification, Nyx abruptly fused the Soul Stone into her chest. A pulse of raw mana radiated outward, bathing the surroundings in a brilliant burst of light. Horizon instinctively shielded his eyes, feeling the sudden surge of energy wash over him.
When the light faded, Nyx stood in place, looking utterly pleased with herself. Her skeletal frame shimmered faintly with residual mana, as if she'd absorbed something beyond comprehension.
"I can feel it," Nyx said, her voice vibrating with excitement. "The mana . . . it's overflowing inside me. With this, I can finally evolve."
Horizon's jaw clenched. "What the hell did you just do?! That was a high-tier very rare artifact material! I could've used that to craft something powerful!" His frustration spilled out in a near shout.
Nyx, unbothered by his outburst, flicked her tail lazily. "Relax."
"Relax?! How do you expect me to relax when you just devoured one of the rarest crafting materials in existence? Do you know how long it'll take for me to find something like that again? Or I'll even manage to acquire one?" His voice rose, a mix of disbelief and anger swirling in his tone.
Nyx rolled her eyes—or at least gave the skeletal equivalent of it. "With your current crafting level? Dream on. Even if you had it, you couldn't have made anything worthwhile for years. Better to use it now so I can evolve, rather than waste it sitting in your inventory collecting dust."
Horizon opened his mouth to argue, but he paused. She was right. As much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't anywhere near the level required to work with a Soul Stone of that caliber. Still, losing something so valuable right before his eyes without a say in the matter left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Nyx's smug expression didn't falter. "By the way, Horizon," she said nonchalantly, "once the process begins, I'll enter hibernation. I'll be completely vulnerable, so you'll need to protect me with everything you've got. If anything happens to me during this time, I'll make sure it's the last mistake you ever make."
Horizon's eyes narrowed. "Huh? Hibernation? Wait—what do you mean, 'vulnerable'?"
Before Nyx could elaborate, another surge of light engulfed her, this time more intense than before. Horizon stumbled back, shielding his eyes again. When the light finally dimmed, he looked back at Nyx—and froze.
Where Nyx had stood moments ago was now a large, smooth object. It looked like an egg, but with an ancient, fossil-like texture. Her skeletal body had curled inward, wings wrapping protectively around herself, tail coiled tightly, forming a near-impenetrable shell.
"What the hell?" Horizon muttered, stepping forward in disbelief. "Nyx? Hey! What happened? What's going on?"
He reached out and picked up the egg carefully, its surface cool and solid under his palms. Though he couldn't feel a pulse, he knew Nyx was still alive—he could sense the faint aura of mana radiating from within.
"Don't just turn into a rock and leave me wondering what's going on," Horizon grumbled under his breath, frustration evident in his voice. He turned the egg over in his hands, inspecting it from every angle. "You could've at least given me a proper explanation before pulling this stunt."
