Chapter 1 The Innocent Little Lotus of the Demon Sect

“Anran, why are you here?” A man in a neatly pressed suit asked awkwardly and nervously in the hotel banquet hall.

“Don’t be nervous, I’m not here to make trouble. I’m just here to attend the wedding. She said she wanted me to witness her moment of happiness, and I came out of curiosity to take a look.” Anran said while smiling.

The man suddenly became agitated and explained, “Anran, I really don’t love you anymore. We’re not right for each other. Please let me go, stop bothering me, okay?”

Anran gave a cold smile, glanced at the innocent-looking woman in a wedding dress, and said, “An Hui, don’t you want to explain to your husband why I’m here?”

Being called out to explain, An Hui looked uneasy and pitiful as she glanced at the man and started to speak, “Xue Yang, she… she’s my sister…”

Her voice choked up, and after that, no more words could be heard. Xue Yang froze upon hearing the word ‘sister’.

At this point, the relatives and friends in the banquet hall, who had been in a daze, began to whisper amongst themselves. A middle-aged female guest at the groom’s table spoke up, “Look at the eldest daughter of the An family and her brother-in-law. What’s going on between them?”

A plump woman beside her chimed in, “Yes, it seems like the older one is bothering him. Our Xue Yang seems really annoyed by her.”

A younger woman added, “You might not know this, but I went to school with Xue Yang. The eldest Miss An used to chase him all the time, but he never agreed to be with her. I don’t know why he ended up with her sister.”

On the bride’s side, a discussion also started. A glamorous girl remarked, “Ugh, this sister clearly doesn’t want her younger sister to be happy. She’s here just to ruin things.”

Xue Yang’s parents exchanged glances and asked the couple next to them, “In-laws, what’s going on here? Didn’t you say your eldest daughter agreed to this marriage? Why is she causing trouble now?”

The parents, called out as in-laws, looked embarrassed. The man reluctantly explained, “It was Ranran who begged me to agree to their marriage, but I’m not sure what’s going on with my daughter.”

The originally warm and happy banquet hall now felt like a noisy marketplace. The bride, trembling and crying, asked, “Sister, do you have to ruin my wedding? It was you who couldn’t keep Xue Yang!”

Anran, seeing her younger sister crying uncontrollably, said, “Why are you all reacting like this? I just wanted you to explain why I’m here. If you don’t want to say it, I’ll explain it myself. Why cry?”

With an innocent look, Anran finished speaking, walked over to the emcee, took the microphone, and glanced around at the people, who were now gossiping, and the groom’s parents, whose faces had turned grim.

Clearing her throat, she said, “Everyone, let’s quiet down, quiet down. I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I said it when I came in—I’m not here to make trouble. Today, I’m just a relative of the bride. I even paid the gift money at the door, just like everyone else, to wish the newlyweds happiness. So, let’s not dwell on this little misunderstanding. Alright, now let’s welcome our handsome emcee to continue hosting the wedding for the couple.”

After saying that, she handed the microphone back to the emcee, turned, and walked off the stage with a smile, heading towards her parents.

“Dad, I’ll sit at that table. My sister only texted me to come to the wedding and give my blessing. She didn’t tell me where to sit.”

Anran’s father, with a heart full of sorrow, looked at his smiling daughter. No one knew better than him how deeply she loved Xue Yang.

With a sigh, he said, “Of course, sit next to me. I’ll ask the waiter to add a chair.”

Anran smiled and nodded in agreement. At this point, the emcee on stage had already re-energized the atmosphere.

“Since the bride and groom are both feeling a bit nervous about their first wedding, let’s play a game to help them relax,” the emcee said.

The crowd cheered enthusiastically.

“Yes!”

The emcee then brought out an apple. Everyone immediately understood the game and grew even more excited. The emcee placed the apple between the couple, asking them to bite it together.

Anran sighed and said, “This is so old-fashioned.”

Though she complained, she still watched intently. At that moment, the couple accidentally kissed while biting the apple, and the audience erupted in cheers.

Suddenly, Anran felt unwell. She had thought that taking propranolol would keep her calm, but seeing this scene made her heart race uncontrollably, and the feeling only intensified. She regretted not bringing more medication. As she was about to tell her father that she needed to leave, everything went black. Just before losing consciousness, she heard her father’s panicked voice.

“Quick… call an ambulance, quickly!”

Then, everything went dark.
