Primordial Expanse: I have the Strongest Talent!

Chapter 554 Outmatched

Chapter 554 Outmatched

Chapter 554  Outmatched

As for Alex, the moment he felt the pressure of Caius' aura, he decided to make a gamble.

If Caius was a Variant class, then he wouldn't have resorted to revealing his true level of power. But now that he had revealed himself to be an A- rank Mutant class, this gave him some level of confidence to fight him. If he was any stronger then he would have just brought Brontes out of his slumber in the taming space under the pretense of giving in, only to then have Brontes attack them.

But now he had the confidence to do the dirty work himself. Well, not 100% confidence… but it was as good as it got for the time being. This was the perfect chance to test out his new level of power.

Finding an A tier Mutant class opponent was a tough challenge, and finding one that moved alone, was even tougher. Most A tiers would be situated in clusters of people, like huge cities like Advent Garden, and Alex couldn't just storm in and challenge one of them in the middle of such a populated area.

As for A tier beasts, they were even trickier to handle. Not only where they exceptionally difficult to come across naturally in the Primordial Expanse, but they usually headed a pack or group of beasts of the same kind.

If it was just 1 A tier beast, then Alex would have the confidence to attempt killing it, but fighting against an A tier beast backed up by dozens of B tiers and perhaps hundreds to thousands of lower lifeform beasts? Hell no.

He didn't have a deathwish.

Hence this situation was perfect for him to finally stretch his legs, as Caius just had to hand himself right over to him on a platter, in a place as desolate as this at that!

How kind of him!

Shing!

A blade suddenly narrowed in on Alex, with the cloaked female figure approaching him with the intent to kill. Of course Alex wasn't stupid, he was aware of her presence and shoddy attempt to launch a surprise attack the whole time, but despite this he simply remained still, letting his aura leak and keeping his gaze trained on Caius, who did just the same as him.

He didn't even turn to look at the incoming attacker.

Alex waited until the very last moment before the cloaked figure's blade gleamed and arced toward his throat. Her speed would be blindingly fast and a guaranteed death for any normal opponent. But Alex was no ordinary opponent.

Just as the blade was about to make contact, his hand shot up with eerie precision, snatching her by the throat mid lunge. The impact was jarring enough to make her drop her weapon involuntarily, which clattered uselessly against the ground.

Her golden eyes widened in pure disbelief as she thrashed and clawed at his arm, trying desperately to break free. Alex barely flinched. His grip was like an iron vice, and her struggles grew weaker and weaker as her airway constricted.

"So you resort to this." Alex muttered, with a voice so cold and detached it sent chills down her spine.

The cloaked figure's muffled attempts at pleading reached his ears, but he paid them no mind. Her thrashing slowed as panic quickly overtook her. She mouthed desperate words — likely begging for mercy — but Alex remained unshaken.

With a calm, deliberate action, he squeezed harder. A sharp crack echoed through the quiet clearing. Her body went limp, with her lifeless form now dangling in his grasp. Without even a glance, Alex tossed her aside like a rag doll.

From beginning to end, he didn't even look at her. The entire time, his gaze remained unchangingly on Caius.

The shift in Caius' expression was subtle but telling. He didn't care about her death, she was a simple pawn he had trained to do his bidding. She was expendable, with the only shame being that he had just lost a formidable C+ rank Variant class power, but he could simply train or recruit another.

"You didn't even blink," Caius said, trying to work out the boy's real personality.

Was that whole thing just a ruse to try and make himself appear strong in front of his opponent? Or was it real, unadulterated apathy?

"I'm not here to waste time," Alex replied, with his tone as sharp as a blade. He stepped over the cloaked girl's lifeless body, closing the gap between him and Caius.

The air was intense between them. Their opposing auras clashed in an invisible storm. To both Caius' surprise and disgust, Alex's aura didn't falter to his one bit. They were evenly matched, like two peas of the same pod.

For a moment, it seemed like time around them had stilled, like the world was holding its breath.

"You made two mistakes," Alex began speaking. "The first was underestimating me. The second –" he gestured to the body on the ground behind him " – was thinking I'd let either of you walk away from this after trying to pull such a stunt."

Caius narrowed his eyes, with his lips curving into a sneer. "You think killing my subordinate proves anything? You're still outmatched, boy."

"Am I?" Alex asked, with a faint smirk tugging at the edge of his lips.

Before Caius had any further time to respond, Alex surged forward with blinding speed. Virtue's Edge sat in the palm of his right hand, while his left stayed ready to block any incoming counterattacks.

Immediately, Caius was caught off guard by Alex's power, forcing him to leap back. This time his eyebrows raised in real shock, instead of surprise. 'I underestimated him again!'

He looked at Alex with a mixture of unease and hurry. This entire time, the one thing propping up his confidence ever since taking up a role as one of the true controllers of Advent Garden was his strength!

If any of the other A tiers wanted to thwart his influence and take him out, they would have to pay a heavy price, likely even risk losing their own lives in the process.

But Alex…

He could tell that Alex didn't have such a worry!
