Chapter 73 - 68 Awakening

Chapter 73: Chapter 68 Awakening

The strength of the equipment determined the outcome of the battle.

Everson wore a B-grade armor set, while Xu Mo was in a C-grade.

How to fight without breaking through his defenses?

On another part of the battlefield, Master Batu also ran into trouble.

Several bloodstains marked his body from the crimson war saber, even though he was a Fierce Gene Warrior with a strong physique.

But at this rate, he would eventually be worn down to death by his opponent.

Surrounding him were numerous people, including the City State Guard and members of the Law Enforcement Team.

However, they did not intervene; instead, they watched the battlefield.

These two have such strong combat power, could they be from the surface world?

Finally, the thugs are going to be taken down!

“Discard the armor, throw away the saber?”

Spare his life?

To become an experimental subject?

Xu Mo took a deep breath, tightened his grip on the war saber in his hand, and turned to face his opponent.

Everson also turned around, looking towards Xu Mo.

Are you still looking for death?

He moved his body, attacking Xu Mo once again as the Source Power Battle Blade in his hand viciously slashed down.

Fast, accurate, ruthless!

His Source Power level was C+, already at the peak of C-grade, just a step away from B-grade.

Combined with a B-grade War Armor Set, his practical Combat Power had already reached B-grade.

What could Xu Mo use to fight?

He felt that Xu Mo’s combat level was comparable to his own, likely also at a C+ Source Power level.

As the war saber slashed down, its powerful energy aimed at Xu Mo.

But Xu Mo remained exceedingly calm, until suddenly, his opponent felt as if his slashing saber was influenced by a force field—it felt extremely heavy and moved slower.

That’s when Xu Mo made his move.

“Bang!” The saber instantly struck, its gleam even faster, hitting the opponent’s armor and emitting a sharp, grating noise.

The formidable power sent Everson flying backward, causing him to land shakily and retreat.

His pupils narrowed—what just happened?

Was his strength reduced, Xu Mo becoming stronger?

Without giving him time to think, Xu Mo charged at him again.

The war saber slashed out.

Everson’s response was incredibly quick, instantly adjusting and attempting to block Xu Mo’s saber.

But that same sensation reoccurred—he was being restricted by an energy field.

“Bang.” Xu Mo’s war saber struck his arm again, numbing it.

Moreover, Xu Mo didn’t stop; his saber continuously slashed, blade after blade in rapid succession.

Each cut landed on Everson with ferocity.

Everson was sent flying again; his knee bent, the saber embedded in the ground, scraping against the surface.

The ground cracked, the intense friction stopping Everson from retreating further.

Beneath his helmet, his expression was extremely unpleasant.

Although Xu Mo’s attacks couldn’t penetrate his armor,

the current battle was extremely humiliating for him—with everyone watching, he was repeatedly repelled by a fugitive.

“Xu Mo.”

A voice came from behind him.

Xu Mo turned his head for a glance; Master Batu was covered in blood, his eyes bloodshot, emanating a bloody hue.

“Don’t worry about me, get out of here and find her,” Master Batu said to Xu Mo, referring naturally to Mia.

He was too conspicuous and less agile compared to Xu Mo.

He couldn’t escape.

Xu Mo couldn’t help him.

If he tried to accompany him, it would only encumber Xu Mo.

“Master Batu,” Xu Mo said, reluctantly.

He saw the crimson saber slashing towards Master Batu.

This time, Master Batu didn’t dodge.

He stretched out his massive palm directly towards the crimson war saber.

“Hiss…”

The saber cut into the flesh, sinking into the huge palm that caught it, as blood flowed freely.

But as if oblivious to the pain, Master Batu clutched the opponent’s head with his right hand in a moment of astonishment.

“Die!”

With a roar of rage, Master Batu vented the fury he had accumulated over many years.

Crack… the sound of breaking bones echoed as the terrifying power made the opponent kneel, followed by the head tilting to one side.

The person inside the helmet no longer showed signs of life.

Dead.

“He’s dead!”

Hearts raced among the distant onlookers, particularly the laboratory supervisor.

Their complexions turned ashen.

One of the company’s young elites had been killed.

Was this an accident?

Lindi had been leaning against the car all along, not moving.

He assumed that Everson and his partner were enough to handle the two from the Underground World.

A good opportunity for a warm-up.

They had come to the Underground World for practice as well.

But clearly, they had underestimated their opponents.

Everson was repelled; if it weren’t for his armor, he’d already have been defeated.

And the other was directly killed.

Lindi took a step forward, his hands reaching over his shoulders to draw his war sabers.

Dual sabers!

The next moment, Lindi’s pace accelerated as he rushed toward where Master Batu was, his speed terrifying.

Master Batu naturally saw Lindi’s movement; he drew the crimson War Saber in his hand, holding it in his right.

Seeing the opponent advance, Master Batu’s saber chopped down.

Lindi’s War Saber in his right hand collided with Master Batu’s, and surprisingly, he didn’t recoil, his other saber slashing across Master Batu’s body.

The saber was fast and sharp.

Blood sprayed, another wound appearing on Master Batu’s body, deeper this time.

Lindi’s saber was fast, extremely fast.

He struck continuously with his twin sabers, each blow ruthless.

Blood kept spraying from Master Batu’s body, the scene was very grim.

Xu Mo wanted to provide support, but Everson attacked him again, and he could only block his opponent’s blows.

“Go!”

Master Batu roared, his saber striking down, yet unable to hit Lindi.

Xu Mo sensed the situation on the battlefield and realized a fact — Master Batu truly couldn’t escape.

Lindi’s strength not only surpassed his current opponent’s but also exceeded the combat power ceiling of the Underworld.

Without hesitation, his War Saber forced Everson back, and Xu Mo turned to leave.

Towards the direction outside the city gates.

When Everson saw Xu Mo flee, he hesitated for a moment and then pursued him relentlessly.

Where would he place his honor if he didn’t kill Xu Mo?

With the War Armor, he was invincible.

Master Batu roared, forcing Lindi back, and then shouted loudly, “I am a noble, once the commander of the Federation Guard!”

His roar stunned the distant Federation Guard and Law Enforcement Team members.

The complexion of the laboratory’s commander changed slightly.

“My wife was a laboratory member,” Master Batu continued, as another line of blood appeared on his body.

Xu Mo didn’t look back, but he could feel everything behind him.

Master Batu had said that once Xu Mo came to the main city area to find him, he would tell Xu Mo his story.

Now, he had found him.

It was just unfortunate that it was in such a manner.

“My wife and I once worked for the City State Council and the laboratories, dreaming of one day going up to the world above,” Master Batu said as the blood kept flowing from his wounds, yet he did not stop speaking.

“Until one day, we discovered that everything was a lie. Whether it be members of the Federation Guard or lab personnel, those born in the Underworld could never go to the world above.”

“My wife was killed, my daughter was taken for genetic experiments, and I became a traitor to the City State.” Master Batu’s voice carried a note of sorrow and fury, “The incident in the Valen Factory a year ago is omnipresent; the Underworld is not a world, it is just a giant factory, everyone from the Underworld – all are experimental subjects.”

“I, and all of you, are as well.”

“There is no hope in the Underworld.”

Lindi’s sabers grew faster, each strike penetrating flesh.

The scene was unbearably brutal.

The distant City State Guard and the Law Enforcement Team members were shocked and appalled at the sight.

And the citizens in far-off places, their hearts trembled at Master Batu’s words as well.

There is no hope in the Underworld!

“Boom…” with a loud explosion, Master Batu sent Lindi flying out, crashing heavily to the ground.

But his saber fell to the ground, his body almost drained of blood.

The ground turned blood-red.

Xu Mo could hardly bear to sense any of it.

Master Batu was burning his last breath, trying to awaken the people of the Underworld.

Master Batu then turned around to face the direction where the City State Guard crowd stood.

He stepped forward and continued, “I, too, was once the executioner of the Underground City. Today’s events are my retribution, as well as my fate.”

“This is my fate, and it will also be yours. We are executioners, but also wretches, seen as nothing more than ants in their eyes.” Master Batu’s words still had a strong impact, the faces of the City State Guard and Law Enforcement Team members turned sour.

Were they the same?

The ones ‘holding the saber’ always feel the thrill of having the power over life and death of others.

They are now the ones ‘holding the saber.’

Will they one day be the ones ‘under the saber’?

They hadn’t thought about it.

“Don’t listen to his nonsense, kill him,” the laboratory’s commander said in a low, cold voice, giving the order.

This time, the City State Guard hesitated.

Even the laboratory personnel hesitated.

Not all of them came from the world above; only those involved in core experiments did.

“The dying man is just trying to lash out in his final moments. Those among you in the past have all gone to the world above and started new lives. It will be the same for you,” the commander continued. “Taking your families with you.”

Everyone hesitated, a new illusion taking root in their minds.

“Kill!”

The commander gave the order again.

Someone fired their gun.

Then others joined in, shooting at Master Batu.

Master Batu laughed, his smile tinged with irony.

It was unclear whether he was laughing at himself or them.

He charged forward, his frenzied power causing the ground to tremble violently.

He seemed to be burning through the energy in his body.

The crystals penetrated his flesh, piercing through his wounds into Master Batu’s body, the intense numbness causing Master Batu’s strength to ebb away further.

His steps also became slower and slower.

“Bang.”

With a loud thud, Master Batu’s body fell.

The crowd continued firing their guns until the commander waved them off, and they ceased fire.

“We need him alive,” the commander said.

Master Batu had value for experimentation.

His daughter hadn’t been found yet either.

They would find ways to make Master Batu talk.

Members of the City State Guard approached to capture him; they needed him alive.

Meanwhile, Xu Mo had already left the city gate, continuing to sprint away into the distance.

Everson was still doggedly pursuing him from behind.

It seemed that unless he killed Xu Mo, he wouldn’t turn back!
