The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 476 Destroying The Path

Chapter 476 Destroying The Path

(From Blue's Perspective)

My heart was pounding in my chest as we walked through a dark tunnel. The only source of light was the small lanterns in Perita and Calix's hands. There was an odd smell in the air as if this path had not been used in years.

Just moments ago, I had been standing in my room, confused when there was literally a war going on outside. Perita gave us a signal which was a small blow of a whistle. Calix heard it as well as everyone except for me. My hearing was not that strong.

Ruby clutched my hand tightly. We had found Evan near the hallway and he was blocking at least fifteen knights with his power. He had changed his appearance in split second. It would be very bad if someone recognized him. I told him to come with me, but he insisted on staying behind to stop the mages.

Doctor Dimitri was nowhere to be seen. We had to leave him behind. I noticed how slow I was.

"Wait! My work…!" I wanted to yell, but there was no point. We had to leave behind a lot of people. My work was nothing compared to their lives. I was ashamed how my heart ached for the device I made.

The tunnel was never ending. I could hear the breath of five people in the eerily silent place. No one was saying anything. Everyone was shocked. If we were a little late, we could have died. I touched my round stomach.

What would happen to us? What would happen to the people left behind? What happened to Dem?

I heard Flint curse beside me. He was holding my fractured arm very carefully and would not let go. He feared I might trip and get hurt.

"The steps are a little slippery here. Be careful, Your Highness," Perita said. She was ahead of us, leading the way.

Before we could reach where she was, she came back with quick jogs. She bent and suddenly picked me up in her arms. "Cannot risk it. It is too slippery," she said.

No one questioned it. They were all very sure of Perita's strength despite her build. I was of no exception.

"How did you know about the tunnel?" I asked as she walked carefully over the slippery place. I noticed we were almost out of the tunnel. The trees outside the tunnel in moon light could be seen.

"His Highness showed it to me, in case of an emergency," she said.

Thinking about Dem made me want to sob. But I held back. "Dem… Do you know if he is okay?"

"I know just as much as Your Highness knows," she replied. "Knowing His Highness, he got to be okay. He will be okay even if he loses his arms and legs."

Perita did not help, only made me worry more. As soon as Perita let me down, Ruby almost fell, but Calix held her. However, Flint took a fall on his back.

"My god, Flint, are you okay?" I exclaimed.

"Fucking rat hole!" he cursed.

"Go help him," I urged Perita.

Perita helped Flint up and pulled him with her. He kept cursing, rubbing his hand over his buttocks. He must have hit the ground really hard.

"There is a cave nearby," Perita said when we all were out of the tunnel safely. "We will go there and stay for the night. I will go with Flint to check the place where we are supposed to go next, the safe place His Highness prepared for Her Highness. In case, they found that place too, we cannot risk going there right now."

"But if we stay here near the tunnel, the mages might find us," Ruby said. She was right.

"No, they won't."

Boom.

The ground beneath our feet shook. That must be why Perita had been holding me tightly. Right after the first explosion, there was another one. And then, another one.

The tunnel was destroyed. It was filled with huge rocks, with no way to enter and no way to out. Even to move all those rocks to make a way, it would take days. Because Calix not only left bombs near the end, but the whole way. It was completely ruined. But why would people even bother to move the rocks?

It was not just the tunnel that was destroyed, but the whole mansion. When the bombs exploded in the tunned, the structure of the mansion got ruined as well and it all came crushing down.

I was completely speechless. Did Evan and Doctor Dimitri manage to get out? Was this the way I paid who helped me in hard times?

I did not even know about this plan. Escaping was fine and leaving them behind was one thing. But killing them on purpose?

"What was that?" I asked angrily.

"We just…," Calix started.

"I know what you did. But WHAT WAS THAT? Evan, Doctor Dimitri and a lot of others were in the mansion!" I yelled. "Is this what we do now? We kill them?!"

"Your Highness, there was no other way," Calix said.

"I know! But killing them…!" I broke down in tears. "What have you done? What have I done?"

"His Highness told us to do it, regardless of whoever has been left behind," Perita said. "King Ford promised to get Doctor Dimitri."

"Who did he promise to? And both of them are inside! Even if he gets to Doctor Dimitri, what's the point? So, they can hold hands while dying?!"

"If King Ford cannot get out of the mansion in time even after I told him about it, he is an ass," Perita said. She was not even bothered much.

Calix was worried about me, but he did not care about the people we left behind. Flint was worried about his back, while Ruby was checking my body to make sure I was not hurt. Was it just me who worried about them? Was no one supposed to worry?
