The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 482 The Possible Betrayal

Chapter 482 The Possible Betrayal

(From Blue's Perspective)

When I woke up, I found myself in an unfamiliar place. I almost freaked out. Then, I remembered I was in Dem's tent. How long did I sleep?

I saw Luc sitting by the bed, a book opened on his lap. He was wearing his reading glasses. Sometimes, he needed to wear glasses to read books.

"Where is Dem?" I asked as I tried to sit up.

"I am fine. Thank you for asking," he said, staring at me over the book.

"Ah… I'm sorry. I was… just…"

"You don't have to apologize to that punk. It is very obvious you will worry about your husband first and not some random healthy dude," Dem said, appearing behind me. It turned out he was in the tent the whole time. He kissed the side of my neck.

I noticed another person there. And I sighed in relief. If I was standing, I would have probably hugged him.

"Oh, Evan…!" I exclaimed. "You are alive!"

"Very nice of you to think I would die there, the King of Trouvaille," he said.

"I know you are strong and stuff… But, anything can happen," I said and looked sideways at Dem. "Really, I have always told all of you that anything can happen."

Dem chuckled. "Well, technically, yes. I was just way too confident in myself. I guess I shouldn't have been careless because of that."

"… If your guess is right, even if you were careful, I don't see much of a point. You can't just not breathe on the battlefield, right?" Luc said.

He closed the book with a slam. "Literally nothing. If you want me to find out about it, at least, try to, I would need to visit the Palace library, my personal library, and also that vault. Surely, you don't wish me to leave this place right now."

'That vault' was just another huge library, containing all sorts of forbidden books. Dem found those books interesting only, so he occasionally read books from there. However, I had not gone there yet. If I needed a book, Dem or Luc would bring it to me. For some reason, I did not even insist go there even just once. No one even knew about the existence of that place other than Luc, Dem, and me.

When we mentioned 'that vault', everyone would get intrigued and think it was a vault that no one else was supposed to enter. They never thought it was the name of that place. Evan was no different. I could see it in his eyes. The need to explore more about it was clear. But there was literally no way he, or anyone, could find it, not when it was in the most unexpected place possible.

"Blue, can you make something, some kind of potion, maybe gas, that will affect only one person?" Evan asked. Dem did not like the fact that he asked this. His facial expression supported my thought.

"Right now?"

"No, not now, just give us some kind of… assurance or anything. Is it possible to make something like that?"

"Theoretically, making anything is possible. We just don't have enough power to do it," I said. Cyan also told me something like this. "For example, take an immortality potion. I can make it. But finding the ingredients will be hard and even if we find them, no one has the amount of power it will take to activate the potion.

Just like that, maybe I will find a way to make the kind of gas you are talking about, but I need to see if I have enough power to activate it."

It might be hard to think how I knew about all the ingredients needed to make a potion. I also found it quite strange. But Cyan said it was not impossible. If someone knew about the ingredients used to make potions or anything, we would not need to read a different recipe for everything. It was actually rather easy.

I just read about the plants, fruits, flowers, and other forbidden ingredients in different books. Then, just when I knew what was it that I would make, I automatically could figure out which ingredients I needed.

"I can at least make the demo," I said. "Then, maybe I will activate it little by little. It is not hard if you find the ingredients."

"You know the ingredients?" Luc asked, surprised.

"Yeah, just a little bit of…"

"No, I mean, you just heard about it. How do you already know?" he asked.

"It just comes to your mind, no?" I said, dumbfounded. I thought that was how everyone figured out what a potion was made of. If I could taste a potion, I could tell what was in it. I did not get the chance to do it much as I had gotten pregnant. However, I did once or twice, and I knew right away.

"Come now, lovely Blue, does a recipe come to your head when you cook?"

"I don't cook," I mumbled. "But Ruby said it kind of comes to you, at least, if you know how it should taste like. You just need a minimum idea about it. My case is not so different. I know all the ingredients that need to be used, at least, the ones that are mentioned in the books I had read. If I know what a potion or a substance is supposed to do, I know what I need to use to make it."

"Ah, yes, photographic memory," Luc nodded. "I am jealous."

Now, my photographic memory actually helped. I remembered everything I read. To make something, it was extremely useful. With a normal memory, there was no way I would be able to do this so easily.

After that, everyone let the subject drop for a while. They probably thought if they talked too much about it, I might start to make it right away. I saw Dem glaring at Evan every now and then, but I decided not to ask him anything about it for now.

But I already knew I would not be able to calm down until I got it done. That was the problem I noticed with myself after my power was awakened. I always had the urge to do more, to push my limits, and… keep pushing until there was nothing left of me.

Evan told me about how Cyan had also fought and went to the mansion to make sure I was okay. I never completely suspected Cyan. I just could not. Was it because he was my twin? Or, was it because I could see the hatred for Azure in his eyes more than anyone else? Yes, I did suspect him, but still, in my heart, I knew it was not him.

It was someone else.

The fact that there could be someone who betrayed us in our inner circle made me anxious. Who could it be? And would I be able to give what it took to learn the truth? Would I not break down?

How would I feel if it was Ruby, Calix, Perita, or Flint? I loved them all too much.

I shook my head. I was not ready to accept the truth. I would never be. But I would have to eventually.

After discussing it for a long time, Luc and Evan took their leave. Evan informed me that after making sure I was safe here, he went to the others to inform them. They were very worried, especially Ruby. She was going crazy. Luc swore again and again that it was not Ruby; it could never be Ruby.

"You never know what is going on in someone's head," Dem had said sharply to Luc.

"Do you?" Luc barked.

"Oh, yes, I do," Dem chuckled. "I do really well. And now, let me meet every one of them tomorrow."

"What are you planning to do?"

"I am not so low as to torture them, especially the mistress of the magic tower. I do not have the right and I would not even if I had it," Dem said.

Thankfully, I told Luc to calm down and leave, or there would have a fight.

"Really…?" I muttered when we were alone. "Not Ruby, Dem."

"I don't trust anyone. I cannot anymore," he said. "You know why I trusted that many people? It's only because you trust them. Well, I do trust Perita and Calix. They were my knights before.

I know them. But Ruby had been your personal maid and although she stood up for you, I don't know…"

"… I don't want to be betrayed…," I mumbled.

The feeling was just like how I felt when I thought Dem married me for my power. I felt the hope I carved in my chest was gone. It was filled with darkness, and hopelessness once again.
