Chapter 160 Back to camp
Chapter 160 Back to camp
The rain that had been devastating the land and causing floods for many days came to a stop the minute ran out of flux energy. Coincidence or not, it made going back to the camp much easier for the battleworn Uriel. He walked stumbling up on his own feet, his expensive intermediate armor was broken and his clothes were almost non existent.
When Amy laid her eyes on him, she got scared for a second and almost sounded the alarm.
"Stay there!" She commanded fearing he might be a skinwalker. Her voice drew the attention of the nearby hunters that were trying to dry their clothes near the warmth of the campfire.
"It's me." Uriel said, but after losing the silver crucifix he had no means of proving his identity. Because of this, Amy was left with no choice but to get close and she placed the silver chain on his forehead, she then turned to her companions and nodded.
"Why did you come back? You already said you didn't belong to our party and abandoned us, there's nothing her for you." Connor then scoffed at him, something the exhausted Uriel didn't appreciate much.
"I didn't abandon anyone, I just had something to do. Besides, you were the first one to say I wasn't a member of your party."
"You two, cut it out immediately. None of that matters, I'm just glad you came back safe." Amy intervened causing both hunters to fall silent.
Although Uriel managed to come back, safe wasn't the word Uriel would use. In fact, it was the complete opposite. He had been stabbed, hit with rocks, buried, hit several times and, even though he was able to regenerate from his injuries thanks to Water warlock's blessing, the pain he endured was real.
"So, what business did you have that was so important it couldn't wait?" Connor questioned him.
"I had to deal with Rocky." Uriel replied honestly, he was too tired to make any excuses.
"Yeah, right. A first year college student 'dealt' with a second year heavenly rank hunter." Connor scoffed at him triggering the laughter from everyone but Amy.
"Is... is he alright?" She asked, to which Uriel replied by shaking his head. "I see."
"Hey! You don't actually believe him, right?"

"Did you at least find out why did he abandon us?"
Uriel pondered for a few seconds on what to say. If he admitted that he killed Rocky without the express consent of the leader of their party he could have legal issues. On the other hand, if he didn't tell the truth and they found out what truly happened, it would make him look even more guilty.
"I was able to confirm that Rocky went inside the chamber of echoes, in there he was infected by a parasite cryptid called an eclipse..."
"Slow down, what do you mean eclipses are parasites? We all know they're made of smoke." Connor cut him short.
"Do you remember what it said at the entrance of the pit? It said there was a shapeshifting demon trapped inside. It turns out, it wasn't a skinwalker but an eclipse." Uriel said as he took the entity level flux orb he obtained after the cryptid vanished and the party gasped in amazement.
"How did you kill it!? You're just an ascended!"
"Again with the rank thing. Ranks are assigned depending solely on the flux energy emitted by a hunter and doesn't take into consideration the nature of their traits." Amy explained.
"If you want a better explanation of what happened, remain silent while I send a video recording to a friend who's interested in cryptids." Uriel said as he took out his cellphone, but the battery was completely depleted. Everyone turned to look everywhere in case there was a cryptid nearby, but the true reason why Uriel's cellphone was off was due to his flux energy running out.
Uriel proceeded to use the tier 1 battery provided by the Cryptid hunting agency and charged his cellphone while greedily slurping a cup of instant noodles. After that, he was ready to make a new Vlog entrance.
"This is Sage's private Vlog. Today I had an encounter with a cryptid I suspect could be an eclipse. It was a parasitic entity level cryptid with the ability to shapeshift into smoke allowing him to heal the host. After the combat I found out its body looked like a black tattoo on the host's body, but it was immune to any means of physical damage.
Moonlight, please refrain yourself from contacting me until I get back from my incursion or this will be the last video entry I make for you." With that, Uriel finished the short video entry and put his phone away. He mentioned almost everything he was able to find out about the cryptid leaving behind only one small detail.
It was that the only way he was able to kill the eclipse was by killing the host.
Everyone saw Uriel with different eyes after he showed them the orb, but when he mentioned Moonlight they almost squealed in excitement after realizing that he was actually friends with one of the most popular freshmen students in college. They would have loved to ask him many questions, but they were unable to as he dozed off soon after.
The group got up in the morning in a bitter mood after spending a sleepless night under the cold rain. As much as Uriel would have loved to get some camping gear from his souvenir shop to make his night more comfortable, each trite was worth a thousand credits and even the cheapest item from the store was at least one trite. In other words, it was too expensive.
"I can't wait to have a proper shower." Amy said as she extended her arms and legs stretching as much as possible to fight the cramps caused by the harsh accommodations. The feline-like tail that emerged from under her armor was soaked wet and fell limp.
"I've had enough water for a lifetime." Connor, the driver, complained.
"I don't care about the water, I just want to sell the orbs and buy nice things." Uriel sighed as he packed his belongings causing everyone to glare daggers at him. "What? It's not my fault Connor suddenly decided to kick me out of the party." He continued with a smile.
After all, not only did he obtain an entity level flux orb after defeating the eclipse, he was also in possession of all the flux orbs Rocky stole from his party leaving everyone almost empty handed.
