Chapter 1408 Who told you ?
Chapter 1408 Who told you ?
Yu Dong did not let the three sisters rest. She remained true to her word and only allowed Yu Jianian and her sisters to rest when it was time for lunch.
"I am dying!" Yu Jianian gasped for breath as she crawled under the shed where Yu Dong was resting. She plopped on the soft hay that was scattered on the ground for them to lie down and panted heavily. Her legs were trembling nonstop and Yu Jianian was on the verge of keeling.
"You are not going to die," Yu Dong was rather calm as she asked Mammy Lin to open the lunch box and handed the water bag to Yu Rongsa who took it and gulped the water down in one go. She did not stop drinking water until the bag was half empty. Fortunately, Yu Dong brought more than one bag of water.
Yu Binghuan and Yu Jianian also drank water and only then did they feel a bit better.
"Cousin Dong can we go back?" Yu Jianian asked. She swore that she wouldn't dare to go against Yu Dong anymore. She would stay quietly in the house and not make any more trouble.
"You can," Yu Dong's words brought the light back into the eyes of Yu Jianian and her sister but then they heard Yu Dong say, "However, if you leave now then all the work that you have done till now will wasted and you will not get any meal at the dinner time."
"Why!?" Yu Jianian was shocked. They have pulled weeds from at least half the field, why would they not receive dinner?
Yu Dong was amused by her question. She raised a brow and stated calmly, "Yu Jianian, farmers only eat two meals a day and when they skip work due to sickness, they try to eat even less as they want to save money for their medicine and family."
"I am giving you three meals, one meal is extra. If you quit working then I will revoke one of those meals. And not only yours but even your family, unless you want your family to suffer with you... I suggest you work hard."
As she spoke she placed the lunch boxes in front of the three sisters. They were laden with generous amounts of rice and meat, the three sisters were really hungry but they dared not to gobble the meal as they did the last time.
Because this meal was what they earned!
The three sisters ate carefully, each rice grain was savoured and the meat was also eaten and chewed thoroughly. Seeing them like this Yu Dong was a bit surprised. She thought that there was no point in teaching these three girls but it seemed like she underestimated them. They seemed a bit more flexible than she thought.
However, this was only the first day she could not expect much from these three brats.
She then said casually, "How did you find out about me and Grandma?"
The village where Yu Sa lived was far from the Big River Village, even if they had heard something they wouldn't have linked it to her and Old Madam Yu but it seemed like they were very confident as they left the village after selling everything.
What did it mean? It meant that someone relayed the information to them!

Hearing her question the three sisters turned silent. Yu Binghuan and Yu Rongsa looked at one another while Yu Jianian also went quiet suddenly, she had no idea what to say. She waited for her sisters to deal with this, as they were smarter than her!
But what were they supposed to say?
Yu Dong was not in a hurry. She calmly took a bite of her rice which was seeped in the sauce that dripped down from the pieces of meat and relished the taste. Because of these three, she too had to stand in the sun for a long time, usually, Yu Dong finished her work much quickly but because of these three sisters, she had to stay in the sun for so long as they were too slow!
"If you tell me the truth I will let you go back an hour early today," Yu Dong suggested. It wasn't that she was being nice to them, Yu Dong knew that if she let them stay behind today, these three sisters wouldn't be able to get the work done anyway.
So why not reduce their and her agony?
This way she would also get the answer to her question.
Yu Jianian's eyes lit up. She really wanted to go back home, working in the field was tiresome. She really could not stay in the field anymore, with Yu Dong's offer, she no longer hesitated and answered honestly, "It was Second Aunt. She was the one who wrote a letter to Grandmother and told her that Grandma Hongmei had earned a lot of money and was living a wonderful life.
If she did not tell us then we wouldn't have known."
She was not lying. Their family lived in a small village which was far from the Big River Village. What was more, no one in their family had a decent job, her grandmother and mother depended on a small business of selling vegetables from their farm.
While she and her sisters loafed around the village. Sometimes if they were lucky they would catch fish in the river and that would bring meat to the table.
Their lives were considerably simple. However once the drought struck, their small business went down the drain and they could no longer sell vegetables and all the fish in the river were also dead.
To make matters worse, the loan sharks started to pressure them into handing over the money. It was then, that the letter sent by Second Madam Yu reached them. She exaggerated and told them that Yu Dong and Old Madam Yu lived a comfortable life because they had made a fortune.
After finding out the truth, their family couldn't sit still and came looking for Yu Dong.
